How to play Qwirkle?

Game Setup

  • Shuffle all the tiles and place six face down in front of each player.
  • The remaining tiles form a central draw pile.
  • Randomly determine the first player.

Gameplay outline

  • In turn, a player places one or more tiles from their hand onto the table, either adding them to existing rows or starting new rows.
  • A row must adhere to only one of the following two characteristics: same shape with all different colors, or same color with all different shapes.
  • After placing, the player draws tiles to once again have six tiles in hand.
  • The turn passes to the next player.

Win/Loss Condition

  • The game ends when the draw pile is emptyand a player has placed all their tiles, or when no player can place any more tiles.
  • Points are then tallied: each tile placed earns one point, and a "Qwirkle" (six tiles in a complete line) awards a bonus.
  • The player with the highest total scorewins the game.

    Pay attention to lines approaching six tiles and anticipate them to earn the bonus before your opponent blocks the line.

    If you see that your opponent can soon achieve a Qwirkle, play a tile that prevents it or diverts the line to slow down their progress.
