Avalon is a social deduction party game based on secret identities, deduction, and bluffing, inspired by The Resistance but enhanced with a medieval Arthurian universe where the forces of Good and Evil clash in a series of quests and machinations. Each participant is assigned a secret role, some loyal to the Round Table, others treacherous servants of Mordred. Players must debate, suspect, accuse, and manipulate, all while trying to ensure their faction triumphs. This game is perfect for creating intensive and tense social interactions around a table with 5 to 10 players.

How to play the game Avalon?
Game Setup
- Shuffle the secret role cardsand deal one to each player: some will be loyal to Arthur (Good), others followers of Mordred (Evil), with special characters such as Merlinor Assassin.
- Without revealing your cards to others, each player secretly consults their role.
- An initial leaderis designated (often randomly) to start the first team selection phase.
Gameplay outline
The game is structured in series of roundsconsisting of two main phases:
Team Proposal Phase
- The designated leader proposes a teamto go on a quest.
- All players vote simultaneouslyto approve or reject this team.
- If the team is approved, it moves to the next phase. If it is rejected too many times, the Evil side can automatically win.
Quest Phase
- The chosen team members secretly play a Success or Fail card.
- The cards are shuffled and revealed: if all cards are successes, the quest succeeds. If one or more Fail cards appear, the quest fails, which benefits the Evil side.
These phases repeat until one side's victory conditions are met.
Win/Loss Condition
- Victory for Good: if the loyal faction completes 3 questsbefore Evil does the same.
- Victory for Evil: if the evil faction causes 3 quest failures, or if, after Good has won 3 quests, the Assassin correctly identifies Merlinat the end of the game.
Special roles such as Merlin (who knows the identity of the traitors but must remain discreet)or Percival, Morgana, and Oberonintroduce additional subtleties that enrich strategy and bluffing.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Analyze votes and behaviors
Voting patterns and hesitations during debates can reveal clues about the alliances and intentions of other players, whether you are on the side of Good or Evil.
-
Master your poker face
If you are on the evil side, sow doubt and conceal your intentions. If you are loyal, subtly use inferred information to convince others without exposing yourself.
-
Use special powers wisely
Roles such as Merlin or Percival offer specific knowledge or confusion: knowing when and how to exploit themis often a decisive factor.
