Rummikub is a classic board game that has captivated families for generations. A cross between rummy and dominoes, it invites players to form sets and runs of numbered tiles to be the first to clear their rack. How to play Rummikub?
Game Setup
- All tiles are mixed face down in the center of the table.
- Each player draws 14 tilesand places them on their rack. The remaining tiles form the reserve. To begin playing, each participant must make an initial meld with a minimum value of 30 points, using only the tiles on their rack.
Gameplay outline
- In turn, a player can lay down new sets, add to existing sets on the table, or rearrange the tiles to create new runs and groups.
- A runconsists of at least three tiles of the same color in numerical sequence. A groupbrings together three or four tiles of the same value but different colors.
- Once the initial 30-point meld has been made, players can manipulate all combinations on the table, provided that each set remains valid at the end of their turn. This mechanic is what makes Rummikub so original and offers many gameplay possibilities.
- If a player cannot perform any action, they draw a tile and their turn ends. Jokers can replace any tile and allow for particularly effective combinations.
Win/Loss Condition
- The game ends when a player successfully places all the tiles from their rack.
- The other players then add up the value of the tiles remaining in their hands. These points are used to calculate the final score according to the game's rules.
- If no more tiles are available in the draw pile and no player can make a move, the game stops, and the winner is determined according to the specified scoring rules.
