Salade de Cafards is a fast-paced, crazy card game that puts your observation skills, memory, and reflexes to the test. The principle seems simple: announce the vegetable shown on each card. But very quickly, the rules become more complicated! You'll sometimes have to tell the truth, sometimes lie, without ever hesitating or repeating certain words. The Taboo cards add even more new constraints that confuse all players. The result: cascading errors, guaranteed laughter, and games that follow one another without ever being the same. How to play Cockroach Salad?

Game Setup

  • All cards are shuffled and then dealt evenly among the players. Each player keeps their deck face down in front of them.
  • The game can then begin, with each player taking turns revealing the top card of their pile.

Gameplay outline

  • On each turn, a player flips over the top card of their deck and must immediately announce a vegetable.
  • Outwardly, it's enough to name the vegetable depicted. But several rules disrupt this logic. If the vegetable matches the previous card's vegetable, the one announced by the previous player, or a vegetable made forbidden by a Taboo card, you must announce a different vegetable.
  • The Taboocards complicate things even further. When they appear, the player must shout " COCKROACH!" and the vegetable in question becomes forbidden as long as that card remains visible. The constraints gradually accumulate, making errors almost inevitable.
  • At the slightest stutter, hesitation, or incorrect announcement, the offending player collects all the cards played in the center of the table. The goal is to stay focused while playing as quickly as possible.

Win/Loss Condition

  • The game ends as soon as a player has gotten rid of all their cards.
  • Conversely, errors force players to pick up cards from the center of the table, thus delaying victory. The first player to completely empty their deck wins the game.
