Scout is a very clever trick-taking game in which players try to put on better shows than their opponents. Through a simple but innovative system of managing your hand of cards, you will have the choice on your turn to play combinations of cards to create a better performance than the previous one, or to recruit a new member for your circus, which means taking a card from the last played performance and adding it to your hand. But by doing this action, it will give a point to the player who played the last performance! At the end of 3 rounds, the player with the most points wins the game. Scout is a very original, strategic, and quick-to-learn game, and it won an award in 2023.

How to play Scout?
Game Setup
- The cards are shuffled, taking into account their orientation, and then dealt among the players according to their number.
- Before looking at their hand, each player can choose to flip it entirely to use the other value printed on the cards. However, once this choice is made,it is forbidden to reorder the cardsuntil the end of the round. This constraint is at the heart of the game.
Gameplay outline
- In turn, a player has several options.
- They can play a Showby playing a stronger combination than the one currently on the table. Combinations can consist of identical cards or sequences of the same length. When a combination is beaten, the player retrieves the previous cards, which will earn them points.
- If they do not wish to or cannot play, they can perform a Scout. They then recruit a card located at one of the ends of the combination on the table and insert it anywhere they wish in their hand, also choosing its orientation. This new card will often allow them to prepare a more powerful combination in a future turn.
- Each round ends when a player empties their hand or when all other players have chosen to recruit rather than play. Points are then counted before a new round begins.
Win/Loss Condition
- At the end of each round, players score points for cards won and tokens acquired during the game.
- Conversely, each card remaining in hand results in a loss of one point. A complete game consists of a number of rounds equal to the number of players. The player with the most points at the end of the last round wins.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Choose the orientation of your hand carefully
This choice made at the beginning of each round is irreversible. Take a few seconds to identify the best possible sequences or groups.
-
Hire at the right time
A single card drawn can completely transform your hand and unlock several combinations.
-
Don't always play your best cards
Sometimes, waiting and improving your hand through recruitment can lead to a much more profitable move.
