How to play Small World?
Game Setup
Set up the game board representing a world divided into various regions. Each player chooses a race/special power combinationfrom those available and takes the corresponding tokens. Place the other combinations within reach, ready to be used throughout the game. Distribute the conquest tokens to each player.
Gameplay outline
In turn, each player organizes their troops to conquer adjacent territories. To succeed in a conquest, they must deploy enough tokens to overcome the forces in place, including neutral defenders. Once established, a people can continue to expand, strengthen their positions, or confront other players. As time goes on, peoples become too numerous to remain effective: a player can decide to make them declineand choose a new combination, at the cost of giving up immediate expansion.
The challenge is to make the most of special powers combined with the board configuration and opposing actions, while skillfully managing the exhaustion of one's forces.
Win/Loss Condition
The game takes place over a set number of rounds. At the end of the last round, each player totals their victory points based on the territories they control. The player with the highest number of pointswins the game. A relative defeat occurs when your people fail to hold or conquer enough territories to compete with opposing scores.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Choosing the right people/power combination
Some combinations are very well suited for rapid expansion, while others excel at consolidating difficult areas. Always analyze the board layout before confirming your selection.
-
Knowing when to say no
A depleted people quickly become a burden. Declining your strength at the right moment to choose a new combination can surprise your opponents and relaunch your strategy towards victory.
-
Scaling at the right pace
Moving too quickly can leave your borders vulnerable, while delaying can cause you to miss scoring opportunities. Seek a balance between expansion and consolidation.
