Taco Hat Cake Gift Pizza is a fast-paced and observation game for 2 to 8 players, by Dave Campbell, illustrated by Simon Douchy and published by Blue Orange. It is the acknowledged successor to Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza — same frantic rules, same explosive atmosphere — but with a sequence of words that is deliberately much harder to pronounce: Hat, Cake, Gift form a treacherous trio that trips up even the most experienced players. Add a Unicorn, a Ninja and a Marmoset with special gestures, and you get the most hilarious and ruthless game in the series.
How to Play Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza?
Game Setup
- Deal the 64 cardsface down equally among all players. Each player forms their personal draw pilewithout looking at it.
- Identify the 3 special cards(Unicorn, Ninja, Monkey) and memorize their respective gestures before starting.
- The player to the left of the dealer starts.
Gameplay outline
- Players take turns clockwise, each playerflips over the top card of their draw pileand places it on thecentral pile, while loudly announcing the word corresponding to its rank in the sequence:Taco → Hat → Cake → Gift → Pizza → Taco → Hat...and so on.
- If the card playedmatches the announced word(e.g., the player says "Cake" and flips over a Cake),all players immediately slap the central pile. Thelast one to slapcollects all the cards from the pile and places them under their draw pile.
- Anyhesitation, stammering, or incorrect wordis immediately penalized: the offending player takes the cards from the pile.
- The 3 special cardsinterrupt the game and require everyone to perform a gesture before slapping:
Monkey: scratch your head with one hand and slap with the other.
Unicorn: mimic a horn on your forehead with the index finger of one hand and slap with the other.
Ninja: perform the ninja gesture defined before the game and slap. - A player with no cards remains active: they continue to announce words on their turn andmust be the first to slapon a match to win the game.
