How to play Ukiyo?

Game Setup

Shuffle the cards then prepare the chosen challenge. Depending on the game mode, the cards will be used to create a single objective or several conditions to be met simultaneously. The playing area is a grid that will progressively host your final composition.

Gameplay outline

  • Taking turns or playing solo, you place cards horizontally or vertically to form a large grid of symbols. Each card has its own constraints and contributes to the construction of the overall pattern.
  • The challenge is to create a composition that precisely respects the imposed objectives. Some cards require symbols to appear in particular positions, while others impose relationships between several areas of the landscape.
  • In cooperative mode, players must communicate effectively to collaboratively build a coherent grid without compromising the final constraints. In solo mode, multiple difficulty levels allow for progressively more complex puzzles.

Win/Loss Condition

The game is won when the grid is entirely completed and all the conditions imposed by the objective cards are met. If a single condition is not met or no valid solution is possible, the challenge is lost and you will have to start over with a new approach.

  • Build your grid with a global vision

Resisting the temptation to solve constraints one by one is often more effective. Always maintain an overview to avoid roadblocks late in the game.

  • Start with the most restrictive constraints

Some cards severely limit placement options. Prioritizing them will allow you to maintain more flexibility to complete the rest of the puzzle.

  • Test multiple configurations before validating

In Ukiyo, moving a single card can completely transform the remaining possibilities. Take the time to explore several arrangements before considering your solution final.
